Writing fillers is a waste of time

I'll just cut to the chase and include the reasons below:

One-time publication and that's it: Okay, so a magazine accepted and published your filler and will or has sent you 25 bucks. You see your filler and name in print in the next issue. Once the excitement of seeing your name and work in print is over, you're done as far as the filler is concerned.

Writing fillers probably involves more time and effort than articles and books. It's true. First you have to come up with a good twist or spin or story or poem, then you have to keep submitting it until it finds a home. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that the filler will ever find a home and when it does, you won't get enough money to make it worthwhile. Try your hand writing articles or books first. The payoff in terms of money and potential fame are greater.

You're limited to existing markets --- if you can find them. Even in well-known magazines that feature such items, you literally have to spend time looking for fillers than articles. Once you find them, you read and forget them, along with the name of the author. Can you honestly state that you remember who wrote the last filler that you read?

Do yourself and your bank account a favor --- focus your efforts on writing articles and books.
